Dr. Deng’s research fields include plant taxonomy, molecular phylogeny and biogeography at the evolutionary and ecological time scales. In my research I am using living and fossil plants and apply various methods to acquire and analyze morphological, DNA sequence, and habitat data. He specific skills include generating and processing nucleotide sequences, light and SEM microscopy, basic histology, performing herbarium and field research, and ecological niche modeling. He has a broad knowledge of plant taxonomy with a particular interest in tribes Urticeae (Urticaceae), Theligonum and Kelloggia (Rubiaceae), Meehania (Lamiaceae), Mazaceae, Carpesium, Adenocaulon and Saussurea (Asteraceae). I am interested in tackling broad questions of biogeography and plant evolution.
